New Race Schedule - Please Read

With the huge help of a crew of volunteers from the Montana Conservation Corps and the community of Missoula, we've managed to build a slightly different descent route on the Marshall Mountain course. The new route is easier technically than the existing course, and it will be used for the lower category races.

Men Cat 3, Women Cat 3, Juniors, and Masters B will race on the modified course, all other categories will race on the standard course (that was used last year). Riders have the opportunity at registration to select which field they would like to race. Anyone is free to self-select into Category 3 or Category 2, the primary difference between these races is the technical difficulty (they have the same amount of climbing). Riders over 40 may self select into Masters A or Masters B; Masters A will ride the standard course, Masters B will ride the modified course.

In order to keep everyone racing the same course at the same time, we're changing the race day schedule a little bit. The revised (and now, true) schedule is as follows:

Friday July, 13th
9am - 5pm - UCI Elite Athlete check in
9am - 7pm - Course open for pre-riding
12pm - 7pm - Athlete check in
5pm - UCI Elite Racer/Manager meeting
Saturday July, 14th
7am - 30 minutes prior to each race start - Athlete check in
7am - 7:45am - Course open for pre-riding
8am - On alternate course - Men Cat 3/Women Cat 3/Juniors/Masters B (2 laps, 2 laps, and 2 laps, 3 laps)
10am - On standard course - Men Cat 2/Men SS/Women Cat 1/Women Cat 2/Women SS (3 laps, 3 laps, 3 laps, 3 laps, 2 laps)
12pm - Men Cat 1/Masters A (4 laps, 4 laps)
3pm - UCI Women Elite
5pm - Kids' Race
6pm - UCI Elite Men
7pm - Dinner, Party, Elite Podiums

*Racer meeting 10 minutes prior to each race at the start line
*Podium Presentations 20 minutes after conclusion of each race (except Elite Women)
*No pre-riding during races

* The A-Line jump will only be open for the 12pm, 3pm, and 6pm races

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask!

Alternate descent . . .?

Whoa. The good folks over at the Montana Conservation Corps just can't get enough trail, which is great, because neither can we.

We think that the course at Marshall Mountain is a pretty good representation of the style of riding in Missoula, but it's no secret that the twists and turns up there are a touch spicier than a lot of the things that you'll find in Sawmill Gulch or Crazy Canyon. We've been plugging away at getting  few of those corners dialed in. Remember that one right hander, where if you didn't set it up quite right you went flying into the woods? Fixed. Remember those two quick switchbacks up top, where you pretty much just locked up both tires and prayed? A thing of the past. We've deceased grades, taken out the off cambers, installed berms, and added a whole buttload of flow.

And now, with a little help from our friends (at MCC, that is), we've got an alternate descent that skips the nastiest of the nasty. We'll run this modified course for the Men Cat 3, Women Cat 3, Juniors, and Masters B, and hopefully take a little bit of the fear factor out of the course for newer racers. The new descent is a mix of logging roads and single track, and still hits on the juiciest, flowiest, most awesomest parts of the course.

Come on out this Wednesday and Thursday June (20, 21) and see what we've been up to. We'll be riding the course at 5:30.

Build Trail - Rip Trail

We've got a couple great opportunities to get dirty in the next couple of weeks . . .

Saturday, June 16, 9am - The Montana Conservation Corps will be out working on a super top secret trail addition. Curious? Come on out and lend a hand, we'll even have some lunch out there.

Wednesday and Thursday, June 20-21, 5:30pm - Come ride the trail! We've done a ton of work this spring in tweaking those little headaches from last year, making some incremental improvements (think berms), and rerouting the trail for more flow and less brakes. Sounds fun, right? We think so. Tell your friends, tell your family, we're ripping trail.

Super D, Super D, Super D

Missoulians! Remember that 6 inch trail bike that you bought for all those epic rides in the Tobaccoroots, but really still just ride the hardtail in Sawmill Gulch after going to the Farmers' Market every Saturday? Well blow the dust off that thing, because you'll want all the travel you can get for the MT Alpha Super D Series at Marshall Mountain.

Head on over to mtalphacycling.blogspot.com for all the juicy details!

Host Housing Deadline

Folks!!
Host housing is filling up fast, and as much as we'd like to, we're not going to be able to accommodate last minute requests. The deadline to get a hold of Joey (ray.joey@gmail.com) for host housing is June 30, 2012!!!

We're also still looking for Missoula locals to open up their homes to racers, probably for just Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at the longest.
